Lore & Background

Bennett's biological parents were members of the Flintblades adventuring team who died protecting him during an attack by Abyss monsters. Found near death, he was rescued by an elderly adventurer who carried him to safety before succumbing to injuries himself. Two older adventurers from Mondstadt's Adventurer's Guild then adopted him. Despite a life filled with misfortune—such as scaring off teammates for his 'Benny's Adventure Team' and suffering grave injuries that were only healed by his Vision—he never complains. His birthday is February 29, celebrated on the 28th by his foster parents to avoid disappointment. In Version 5.8, a story quest titled 'Sunspray Summer Resort' revealed he is from Natlan; his bad luck stemmed from being severed from Natlan's Ley Lines as an infant. The narrative featured his reunion with the spirits of his birth parents, who called him their 'lucky star,' and confirmed that the Mare Jivari was mimicked by the Abyss.

In Their Own Story

During the 'Sunspray Summer Resort' quest in Natlan, Bennett experiences unusual good luck while exploring the Easybreeze Holiday Resort with an Asha companion. After encountering Abyss monsters, a group discovers an old notebook bearing the name 'Flintblades.' The next day, all photographs blur except for one showing the Flintblades clearly, and the Asha leads them to a Domain entrance. Inside, Bennett becomes separated from his companions in harsh conditions until he loses consciousness. Two Ashas guard him while Venti uses Anemo powers to save him and reveal the remaining memories of the Flintblades. They learn Bennett was the infant they desperately tried to save before dying. Upon waking, Bennett reunites with his birth parents' spirits, learning his name means 'blessed one.' At a sunrise ceremony by the sea, he bids farewell to their spirits, vowing to become the greatest adventurer. He later confirms with Mavuika that the domain was the Mare Jivari mimicked by the Abyss, now dispersed, before deciding to return to Mondstadt.
