Lore & Background

Neuvillette is the reincarnation of the original Hydro Dragon Sovereign, born after his predecessor died in a war where elemental power was stolen by the Hydro Archon. To understand his nature, he took up the position of Iudex at Focalors' invitation. Four hundred years prior to the game's events, he worked with Melusine Carole and Captain Vautrin on institutional reforms but failed to protect them when they were framed by radical conservatives; this trauma made him hesitant about human acceptance. In the main storyline, after meeting the Traveler in the Opera Epiclese, Neuvillette investigates Tartaglia's disappearance at the Fortress of Meropide. When the dam bursts, he reveals his true identity as the Hydro Dragon Sovereign to seal it. Later, he conducts a trial against Furina to uncover the truth about the prophecy foretelling Fontaine's destruction.

In Their Own Story

The crisis escalates when the All-Devouring Narwhal emerges as the source of the prophecy. Neuvillette and the Traveler witness Focalors destroy the divine throne, sacrificing herself to return the usurped Hydro authority to him. Now a complete dragon, Neuvillette defeats the Narwhal alongside the Traveler, saving Fontaine and its people. Following Furina's abdication, he assumes full governance over the nation. Using the Fountain of Lucine to read emotions in the water, they trace the crime. Wriothesley reveals that Vautrin once founded a mutual aid society still active in the Fortress. Overcome with grief recalling Carole and Vautrin's sacrifices, Neuvillette causes rain to fall briefly before finding release as the sky clears.

Reader's Guide

Neuvillette is a five-star Hydro character wielding a Catalyst. His Charged Attack consumes health to unleash a powerful torrent striking all enemies in a linear path. His Elemental Skill and Burst generate objects absorbed during Charged Attacks to restore health and reduce charge time. Upon release, players discovered an exploit allowing him to expand his attack range by rapidly rotating the camera; this was fixed without notice in version 4.8, causing backlash until HoYoverse reversed the change the next day. Voiced by Ray Chase (English) and Hiroshi Kamiya (Japanese), he is portrayed as serious, earnest, and rarely smiling. Chase noted adjusting his voice from "strict and fed-up" to something softer to show vulnerability, while Kamiya found balancing his rational, emotionless tone difficult.
