Nahida

Lore & Background

Nahida is the youngest among the seven Archons, succeeding Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. While nominally the ruler of Sumeru, she was confined to the Sanctuary of Surasthana by the Akademiya sages who looked down on her lack of wisdom compared to her predecessor. The sages utilized the Akasha system, originally created by Rukkhadevata, to harvest dreams and trap citizens in a samsara loop while plotting with Fatui Harbinger Il Dottore to replace Nahida using the Electro Gnosis and Scaramouche. Through the Traveler's intervention, this dream loop was broken. It was revealed that Rukkhadevata had created Nahida as a new incarnation using a purified branch of Irminsul to erase herself from existence and cleanse forbidden knowledge introduced by King Deshret. After rescuing Nahida with allies Cyno, Alhaitham, and Dehya, the Traveler defeated the deified Scaramouche. Nahida later negotiated with Dottore, giving away the Dendro Gnosis in exchange for the Electro Gnosis, while the destruction of his copies was a separate demonstration of sincerity. She reorganized the Akademiya, punished corrupt sages, shut down the Akasha system, and used the Dendro Gnosis to modify Irminsul to save Teyvat.

In Their Own Story

In version 3.0, Nahida debuted as an NPC assisting the Traveler in Sumeru's main storyline. On October 27, a character teaser titled 'Happy Birthday' revealed lore details, followed by a web event on October 28 where she participated in the Sabzeruz Festival within a dream. A gameplay demo called 'Boundless Bliss' released on October 31 explored her abilities before her playable release. During the story arc, the Traveler met Nahida believing she could help find their lost sibling but found no answers via the Akasha initially. Caught in the samsara loop caused by the sages and Dottore, the Traveler sensed something wrong due to their unique constitution and, with Nahida's help, broke free. They investigated the plan to turn Scaramouche into a god, leading to Nahida losing control of the Akasha and being imprisoned. The Traveler traveled to Sumeru's western desert to form a rescue team, eventually succeeding in freeing her. After defeating Scaramouche, Nahida agreed to hide him under her care as he recovered, allowing him to remain in Sumeru as a student.

Reader's Guide

Nahida is a five-star Dendro element user who wields a Catalyst. Players obtain her via the game's gacha system. Her Elemental Skill marks up to eight enemies simultaneously; when elemental reactions trigger on any marked enemy, all marked enemies take damage at once. Her Elemental Burst creates a field called the Shrine of Maya, which enhances Nahida's abilities if Pyro, Electro, or Hydro characters are present in the party. Beyond combat, her skill interacts with collectible items to aid resource gathering outside of battle. Notably, she possesses a unique ability similar to telepathy that allows players to hear the inner thoughts of all named NPCs in Sumeru, marking the first instance in the game where abilities directly affect NPCs and tying into her lore as Lesser Lord Kusanali.
