The nation's downfall came swiftly when the Heavenly Principles deemed its existence a threat to the order of Teyvat. A cataclysmic event struck, transforming many of the populace into monsters—though not all Hilichurls are from Khaenri'ah, as the species predates the nation and exists elsewhere—and erasing the surface kingdom from the map. Yet, the destruction was not absolute; some individuals managed to escape the curse or retain their human form, fleeing into the shadows. These survivors became the core of the Abyss Order, proving that the legacy of Khaenri'ah endures beyond its ruins. Note that no canonical source links Tartaglia (Childe) to Khaenri'ah; his heritage is from Snezhnaya.
